Hi Bryce,
 Would the above work? Specifically if I download the release from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/9.04/

I'm suffering from the Fatal server error: Couldn't bind memory for BO
front buffer
and as given in the notes :-

Users of Intel i845 or i865 video chipsets are unable to load X,
getting an error message of "Fatal server error: Couldn't bind memory
for BO front buffer". Users on these systems are advised to wait for a
resolution to this bug before upgrading. 304871

So perhaps the only resolution is to wait for 9.04 alpha 3, download
that one and then can test it.
