[Bug 310564] Re: missing part of the desktop

I am new to Ubuntu

Just received the Ubuntu disk from Canonical and tried to load it as a
standalone system i.e booting off the disk

All I Get is approx three quarters of the desktop displayed - about
quarter of screen to the left just blank space (black).

Not always on-line as I Use the internet at my local library and won't
be back on line untill the New Year

Hoping that someone can answer this question as I am keen to try out
Linux

My Machine is approximately 5 years old
