Note:  I did an 'uninstall/install' with total sources updates (including sources from VLC author...)
and problem persisted. ( I had problem from the update manager downloading, then tried to fix broken packages. I did another update, but it would not install, since vlc package had errors...

I then uninstalled VLC... Installed other package... Updated sources...
downloaded (installed from command line... and Voila!!

VLC is hosed... evidently from source.
