Hi 
  I have kubuntu 8.04 and then I using clipboard copy in mcedit with sudo  this cause disabling clipboard for normal user.
It's because  mcedit rewrite with root only permissions  folder and files .mc/cedit/cooledit.* and  denying access as user.

I think this is a problem of mcedit then not using for root user their
root folder path in /root/.mc/cedit/* for editing text files.

Workaround: after using as sudo mcedit  run this 
sudo chown -R user:user   .mc/cedit
