I confirm that I get the same behavior on my Eee B202 with Sony SDM-
HS75P using DVI connection.

Switching to vesa driver fixes the issue.

The custom kernels at http://array.org/ubuntu did not help (though it
doesn't appear that these kernels are compatible with the B202).

A post and subsequent discussion here suggests that possibly in a
8.04->8.10 upgrade path scenario the issue does not occur:
