[Bug 299921] [NEW] Cannot open lyx-1.6.x files

Binary package hint: lyx

When I try to open a lyx version 1.6.0 file, I get the following error:
"/home/xp/v160.lyx is from a different version of LyX, but the lyx2lyx script
failed to convert it."

Since Hardy will be supported for a while it would be nice to be able to open files from later versions of LyX. There are two ways of doing this
1) In lyx we can replace the lyx2lyx dir with a later version without needing to update the rest of LyX (except perhaps the "unicodesymbols" file may need to be updated as well). This will allow LyX to import files from later versions of LyX in the same way it can import files from previous versions.
2) Update lyx from 1.5.{3,6} to 1.5.7. 1.5.7 can read 1.6.x files. The primary difference is bugfixes which should be OK, but beware of the caveat for the 1.5.4  update:

"We were forced to switch from the LaTeX package 'floatflt' to 'wrapfig'
for wrap figure floats due to a license problem that limited the
availability of the former package. In general, this should improve your
documents containing wrap figures, however, it is possible that the look
and positioning of the floats changes due to the package change. If you
have documents with wrap floats, please make a backup before upgrading
and check the output.

Please find enclosed an announcement, some sources in tar.gz format (also .tar.bz2) and finally a gzipped patch (in .bz2 too). In a few days there should also be some binaries (mirror server)."
