Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: tor
Currently, if a user installs Tor/Vidalia/Torbutton/Privoxy, everything
appears to work together. However, in order for privoxy to properly
forward Tor traffic you need to the following line to the top of
/etc/privoxy/config:
forward-socks4a / 127.0.0.1:9050 .
Without this there, even when Torbutton is activated in Firefox the
user's traffic is not anonymous. Even worse, everything appears to be
working. Certainly it is poor practice for one package (Tor) to edit
another package's (Privoxy) config file considering Privoxy is useful
for more than just Tor, but maybe some notification sending the user to
the documentation page for Tor could be added to make them aware of this
and other issues?
This is a problem as far as I can tell in any and all versions of
Ubuntu.
** Affects: tor (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
