I had similar problem, with root privileges goes faster, with intrepid
driver. The launchpad intel driver does not work for me. But i noticed
that in kde4 i had to set DISPLAY=:0 because, i don't know why, kde4
start on display 1. And i also see that glxinfo don't show information
en display 1 but do in display 0 with software rendering. Tell me if you
need more info.
