Actually I just tested EXA+DRI and... it works. So:

XAA + DRI enabled : crash
XAA + DRI disabled : crash
EXA : works

I have some display garbage, though - will file separately...

Attached is the .crash file generated by apport (DRI on).

The XAA setting was probably my fiddling while I had Intrepid -- if EXA
is default it's probably not that critical.
