[Bug 358688] [NEW] "always monitor a connected device" no longer works in jaunty

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: netspeed

I've checked "always monitor a connected device" in netspeed_applet
preferences, but it never shows anything other than eth0, which has no
cable plugged in and no traffic whatsoever.

E.g. currently 'ip route' shows that the default route is via ppp0, and
there are no routes whatsoever on other interfaces. (ip a shows that
eth0 is UP, which is not as important.)

I recall sending a patch upstream to fix this very issue way back when I
was still running Hardy:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=503518#c18

I never noticed this problem in Intrepid. Now I upgraded to Jaunty and
the issue is back.
