I can't reproduce the problem on Jaunty and Intrepid. For me the entry
appear in the menu in Audio and Video section.

Regarding your debdiff, 
- you should send it to Debian to be integrate directly in Debian and Ubuntu.
- you should mention in the changelog why who bump the depends of debhelper to 7 (aka the use of dh_prep).
