As per instructions here, I removed everything associated with
"Acroread" using the Synaptics Package Manager and then I used Ubuntu
Tweak (the newest version, installed this morning) to remove every
remaining trace of Acroread (as well as everything else found there
which was available for removing).
Then I reinstalled Acroread from the terminal. It worked. I then went
back into the Synaptics Package Manager and tried to reinstall several
additional options, including the plugins and the reader option.
The ones which appear to be giving problems are < acroread-I10n-de > and
< acroread-debian-files > (I have both the medibuntu and the debian-
multimedia repositories installed). When I attempted to upgrade, these
two files appeared in the "Broken" files section so I uninstalled them.
Everything I have selected now appears to be functioning properly.
Thanks for all the helpful posts here. The Ubuntu community is
positively the finest community in existence and, each time I go here
for advice or help, and I get it, it just makes me very thankful that I
took the plunge last year to install, learn, and use Ubuntu Linux.
Thanks again!
Lawrence
