[Bug 359124] Re: [i965] Massive Screen Tearing with 9.04

I had issues with my Intel 4500MHD card in my Vaio TT (VGN-TT15GN) after
a fresh install of Jaunty 9.04. Jaunty works fine with the live CD,
with Compiz effects enabled and minimal tearing, even on installing the
beta build on the HDD it works just fine. Trouble started when I carried
out an update last night (14APR09) and whatever has happened to the
build between the beta I downloaded on the 11APR09 and the recent
updates broke the install.

Firstly I get a lock up at the GDM login screen - at first I thought x
was broken as there were almost 'artifacts' (pink 'unrendered' type of
thing) but there was no mouse either - I was able to type in username
and password but nothing else.

This was only corrected by using the recovery console through GRUB and
uninstalling compiz and compiz-core - able to boot fine into a desktop
after this. This was after reading on the forums about similiar issues
others were having with the Intel graphics chipset.

As mentioned at the outset of this bug - with no compiz enabled, just
plain old Gnome I was getting screen tearing when moving a window across
the desktop at any speed (slow or fast) - sorry unable to get a
screenshot of this as well due to key mapping issues with the Vaio TT
fullstop.

I have enabled UXA in xorg.conf and have found the tearing issue has
diminished greatly and as a result was able to reinstall compiz and
compiz-core which can now be used quite successfully. Able to login and
out of the desktop without the freezing issues of the first update.
