[Bug 222676] Re: digital media player not recognised as such by windows application

So, I've left this bug a bit unattended for a long time because I had
assumed that it was similar to the "Wine doesn't support arbitrary USB
devices" problems that are well known.

However, in MSC mode, a media player is just a mass storage device to
the operating system, and Wine does support that. The only reason
Ubuntu knows that it's a media player is that it has it listed in a
database of sorts - internally it treats it just like a memory stick.
So I'm not quite sure what you mean by "let client applications know a
device is a media player", since I'm not sure how Windows does this
(possibly the Sandisk software is just checking for this device in
particular)

Anyway, before this can be appropriately filed at winehq (USB support,
lack of MTP support, or some other bug in the application). It would be
helpful if you could test the app against the latest Wine and see if it
still breaks in MPC mode.

Thank you for reporting!
