Hello -- The version I was trying to install from synaptic is
1.1.8-3ubuntu1, and the installation failed, the version from the
mozilla site is 1.1.8 and the installation succeeded.

It was a slightly odd occurrence, and I'd be surprised if I could
reproduce it myself.
