[Bug 496779] [NEW] switching VT away from plymouth does not reliably show the boot messages

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plymouth

To check on what was taking my system a long time to boot, I tried to
switch VT's with Alt+arrow keys.  This caused the console boot messages
to appear briefly, only to be replaced immediately by the plymouth boot
splash again.  So something apparently didn't want to let go of the
console.
