I just noticed the same issue on Ubuntu 9.10. The solution was to do the
following:
cd /var/run/
mkdir scanlogd
chmod 750 scanlogd
and then I was able to start the scanlogd successfully. I haven't had
this issue on two other servers and I don't know what caused it on this
one. Anyway, I hope this will help someone.
