Thanks, friend.  I took your advice and enabled apport, restarted, and
reproduced the crashes.  I am not sure what apport did (unless it was
all behind the scenes), but I do now have three crash reports which are
attached for diagnosis and review.

Also, the output from the terminal for both rhythmbox and sound-juicer
is as follows:

user at host:~$ rhythmbox

** (rhythmbox:5585): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name
!= NULL' failed

** (rhythmbox:5585): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
user at host:~$ sound-juicer
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
user at host:~$
