that's an ICE on invalid code; won't fix for hard, fixed in later
releases

$ g++-4.2 -c foo.cc 
foo.cc:1: error: expected type-specifier
foo.cc:1: error: expected `>'
foo.cc:1: error: expected `class'
foo.cc:1: error: expected identifier
foo.cc:1: error: expected '>'
foo.cc:1: error: expected unqualified-id before '>' token
