Public bug reported:

   When I insert a DVD movie, the options window opens. I select any movie player. The program is opened. On a few videos, the main menu will open, but the menu links don't work and the movie won't play, regardless of whether I am using Totem or VLC. On most movies, there is a complete failure.
   I'll concentrate on the failures to play for right now. The movie is "Catwoman". This disk plays perfectly in Windows XP Pro and plays when manually opened in OpenSuSE 11.1 , all on this machine. The kernel in OpenSuSE is 2.6.27.7-9-default. The kernel in Ubuntu is 2.6.27-9-generic. Here's what happens in Ubuntu.
   In VLC media player, a blank movie screen is flashed for a split second. I opened VLC from a terminal and tried to play the disk. The result was identical. Output in the terminal window was:

libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 4.1.2 from http://dvd.sf.net
libdvdnav: DVD Title: CATWOMAN
libdvdnav: DVD Serial Number: 315C5DC1
libdvdnav: DVD Title (Alternative): CATWOMAN
libdvdnav: Unable to find map file '/home/ronnie/.dvdnav/CATWOMAN.map'
libdvdnav: DVD disk reports itself with Region mask 0x00fe0000. Regions: 1
libdvdnav: Language 'en' not found, using '' instead
libdvdnav: Menu Languages available:
libdvdnav: Language 'en' not found, using '' instead
libdvdnav: Menu Languages available:
libdvdnav: Language 'en' not found, using '' instead
libdvdnav: Menu Languages available:

When I did the same in Totem, the program stopped responding. I had to
"force kill" the program. These three messages continually repeated at
high speed until the program closed:

*** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1571 ***
*** for c_adt->cell_adr_table[i].vob_id > 0 ***

*** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1573 ***
*** for c_adt->cell_adr_table[i].cell_id > 0 ***

*** libdvdread: CHECK_VALUE failed in ifo_read.c:1575 ***
*** for c_adt->cell_adr_table[i].start_sector < c_adt->cell_adr_table[i].last_sector ***

   The DVD playback in OpenSuSE is problematic also, but I am able to at least watch all movies. Their problem is that there is no window opened after insertion of the disk. The disk has to be opened manually from the player menu. Also, the DVD menus are very buggy and often cause crashes.
   I'm not sure if this is a kernel bug or if it has to do with the libdvd libraries. I never had problems with Ubuntu 8.04 or earlier versions of OpenSuSE, regardless of kernel.
  If it makes any difference, my Ubuntu installation is an automated upgrade made by the package manager from 8.04 to 8.10

** Affects: libdvdnav (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
