Got the same problem, some more strange behaviour that might help to
identify the problem:

The glitch only occurs when I enable Compiz through System, Preferences,
Appearance. Not when I enable Compiz via the Compiz Fusion Icon.
Enabling or disabling with either method doesn't get rid of the glitch
once it's there.
