[Bug 323449] [NEW] Ubuntu 8.10: "Failed to open your audio device(s)." ALSA: "Audio device could not be opened."

Binary package hint: mixxx

Fresh install of Mixxx, on program launch Mixx responds with prompt "Failed to open your audio device(s)."
A preference window pops up allowing you to configure sound hardware.  Mixxx will not recognize the following default settings..  Reselecting ALSA results in "Audio device could not be opened."

Steps to Reproduce

1. Open Synaptic.
2. Install mixxx & mixxx-data (1.6.0~beta3-2ubuntu1)
3. Launch mixxx
4. Select music folder, click ok
5. Error prompt pops up with ,"Failed to open your audio device(s)."
6. click ok
7. Preference window prompt pops up.
8. ALSA 44100kHz selected as default.  Reselecting results in error message "Audio device could not be opened."
