I can confirm this behaviour in 1.0~beta6-ubuntu3. App at this point is
useless to most users.

Settings can be changed by opening gconf-editor and changing the values
in Apps>gtwitter.

I have these set correctly (have just logged into twitter with the exact
same information) but still get connection refused
