Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: hddtemp
This bug is similar to this:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hddtemp/+bug/160621
but instead, using hddtemp in _daemon mode_ seems always to wakeup the
hdd _without_ using the -w switch.
Running like so:
root at nas:/usr/sbin# ps -waux|grep hdd
Warning: bad ps syntax, perhaps a bogus '-'? See http://procps.sf.net/faq.html
root 1004 0.0 0.0 4524 2020 ? S 22:27 0:00 hddtemp.org -d -l 127.0.0.1 -p 7634 -s | /dev/sg0 /dev/sg1 /dev/sg2 /dev/sg3 /dev/sda /dev/sdb /dev/sdc /dev/sdd
followed by something like that:
root at nas:/usr/sbin# netcat localhost 7634
|/dev/sg0|WDC WD1001FALS-00J7B0|36|C||/dev/sg1|WDC WD10EADS-00L5B1|36|C||/dev/sg2|WDC WD1001FALS-00J7B0|36|C||/dev/sg3|TOSHIBA MK2018GAS|76|F||/dev/sda|WDC WD1001FALS-00J7B0|36|C||/dev/sdb|WDC WD10EADS-00L5B1|36|C||/dev/sdc|WDC WD1001FALS-00J7B0|36|C||/dev/sdd|TOSHIBA MK2018GAS|76|F|
spins up the drive immediately that was put to sleep earlier with hdparm
-y /dev/sdx.
In my opinion this should only happen when using -w in daemon-mode.
Reading the temp manually with:
root at nas:/usr/sbin# hddtemp /dev/sdc
/dev/sdc: WDC WD1001FALS-00J7B0: drive is sleeping
doesn't spin up the drive as expected.
