Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev-extras

I'm seeing an issue on an older VAIO:
Sony Corporation
VGN-S4M_S
J000VRWH

Some of the fn keys are not working. Mute, volume & brightness. I could
live with this as I can adjust these in other ways however hibernate,
suspend and occasionally shutdown all seem to go through the motions
then finally the hard disk light comes on, fan goes to full speed and
the machine sits there. Upon shutdown it actually prints a message on
the screen saying, power down or power off.

So the strange thing is this. When using hibernate, I'm forced to hold
down the power key to power off after I see the activitiy stop and the
lights/fan come on, When I reboot, it resumes the hibernate image, plus
all the fn keys now work.

Linux vaio-ubuntu 2.6.28-13-generic #45-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 30 19:49:51 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
Ubuntu 9.04

I've tried the four methods described for discovering the keycodes and
can conclude that the fn keys are not sending any keycodes at all until
after the somewhat haphazard hibernate/resume cycle.

Many thanks for any help, Paul
