Public bug reported:
If the lid of the laptop has been closed while the system is shutting
down, the first login on the next startup shows the startup console for
a brief moment and returns the user to the Gnome login screen. On the
second attempt the session is loaded successfully. If the lid is kept
open until the laptop has been shut down, on the next startup the
session is loaded successfully already on the first attempt.
This is reproducible every time. I have not experienced similar
behaviour on either Intrepid or Hardy on the same hardware. It seems
that the closing of the lid prevents the system from shutting down
cleanly.
Workaround: Keep the lid open until the system has shutdown.
I have attached some information I suspect is relevant, but I am happy
to provide any additional information which might be useful.
