Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: pdns
Hello,
I have a total of three DNS servers running on Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.3 (all
fully up to date) and my customers complained that sometimes DNS queries
took a long time.
After searching around and tuning PowerDNS i found that is it a bug in
PowerDNS 2.9.21 (version shipped with Hardy).
In my syslog (on all three servers) i see:
Jul 10 06:08:49 noc pdns[31437]: Error creating thread: Cannot allocate
memory
This results in a restart of PowerDNS:
Jul 9 22:01:48 v1 pdns[28126]: Error creating thread: Cannot allocate memory
Jul 9 22:01:57 v1 pdns[28126]: 5047 questions waiting for database attention. Limit is 5000, respawning
Jul 9 22:01:57 v1 pdns[23315]: Our pdns instance exited with code 1
Jul 9 22:01:57 v1 pdns[23315]: Respawning
Jul 9 22:01:58 v1 pdns[29403]: Guardian is launching an instance
Jul 9 22:01:58 v1 pdns[29403]: This is module gmysqlbackend.so reporting
Jul 9 22:01:58 v1 pdns[29403]: This is a guarded instance of pdns
I checked if my backend (MySQL) was to busy, but that is not the case.
This issue happeneds on a total of 3 servers and they all have a load
around 0.00
The three machines are different hardware, one machine is a Xen domU,
the other two are Dell R400 servers.
After searching the web i found that this is a issue within PowerDNS
wich has been fixed in 2.9.22, so i urge Ubuntu to fix this.
If i need to do some further testing, no problem!
At the moment i am running a self-compiled version of PowerDNS 2.9.22 in
order to fix this.
