I uploaded Ubuntu 8.04 and 9.04 backports to my postgresql PPA:

  https://launchpad.net/~pitti/+archive/postgresql

I keep these updated with tested PostgreSQL updates and backports and no
other crack, so they are reasonably safe for production use.
