Rebuilding the package after modifying debian/rules:
CFLAGS := -g -O2 -DHAVE_PTSNAME -DHAVE_GRANTPT -DHAVE_UNLOCKPT
solves the problem. 

These macros are required for common/gnat/gexpect_tty.c to work with
/dev/ptmx.
