Public bug reported:

The package failed to install due to an improper install of python-
support. The pysupport python module was not on my system and
ultimately I had to download and re-install that package to get the
module and have python-cheetah complete.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:	Ubuntu 9.04
Release:	9.04

$ apt-cache policy python-cheetah
python-cheetah:
  Installed: 2.0.1-2ubuntu3
  Candidate: 2.0.1-2ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 2.0.1-2ubuntu3 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/universe Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

$ apt-cache policy python-support
python-support:
  Installed: 0.8.7ubuntu4
  Candidate: 0.8.7ubuntu4
  Version table:
 *** 0.8.7ubuntu4 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

What I expected:
I expected the package to install. With hindsight I would expect a more descriptive error message and an easier way to re-install the python-support package. Ideally such an error should be detectable and the necessary fix suggested or applied.

What happened instead:
Screen fulls of error messages scrolled by with other python packages also complaining about the missing module. Finding the bad package happened to be luck since pysupport was not the package name nor was it findable via a apt-cache search.
