** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
Status: Incomplete => Confirmed
** Summary changed:
- Intel display settings not available after upgrade to jaunty (found workaround)
+ [i945] Intel display settings not available after upgrade to jaunty (found workaround)
** Description changed:
Binary package hint: xorg
Upgraded from 8.10 to 9.04 jaunty jackalope.
The maximum display resolution available in the settings was now 1028 by 800, and not the right shape for my laptop, leaving unused space at both sides of the screen.
I fixed this by editing xorg.conf (gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf) and stating that the intel driver is to be used, thus:
Change from:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
EndSection
To:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Driver "intel"
EndSection
Now the 1280 x 768 I need for this Sony Vaio VGN-N270E is available as a
display setting and is working fine.
However, this appears to be a 9.4 upgrade bug. When I originally
installed 8.10 the display driver worked right away, without any set up
needed by me. This problem is relatively trivial and easy to
workaround, but I fear many users will simply revert to 8.10 when they
can't immediately set up the display in 9.4.
