Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fast-user-switch-applet

The Fast User Switch Applet doesn’t show any icons for the logout
options (logout, shutdown, hibernate, etc.).

This was already reported as part of a more general usability complaint
in Bug #291846, but I think this is worth a separate report. In that bug
it is said that the lack of icons is on purpose, since no visual
metaphors were distinct enough for these actions.

I’d disagree on that: Plain text is very difficult to catch, one has
actually to _read_ the menu items in order to get the right one. Any
visual hint would be of benefit, even those quite unspecific ones used
in the old logout dialog (different color logout buttons). Plus, visual
metaphors do exist: The GNOME power manager uses very distinct icons for
suspend to disk and suspend to RAM, the logout icon (an open door) is
quite well established, as well as the shutdown (a “power button”).

** Affects: fast-user-switch-applet (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
