Looking at the log, it apparently chokes on reading the "workgroup" value from a previous /etc/samba/lwiauthd.conf
Do you have an existing /etc/samba/lwiauthd.conf file, like a leftover of previous likewise-open (4.x) installation ?

If yes, could you try "sudo apt-get purge likewise-open" to get rid of
that file and retry your domain join ? Thanks !
