[Bug 379602] [NEW] Compiz causes X to freeze after clicking on a GNOME menu item after login

Hi.

I have Compiz 0.8.2 installed on a Gateway GT5040 machine running Ubuntu
9.04.  However, it does not work at all with an Intel i915 VGA
controller.  If I try to click on a menu item in the GNOME panel after
logging in, X freezes, and seconds later, black blobs begin to appear.
In fact, X also freezes if I try to make any dialog or window appear on
the screen in any fashion.  What is expected to happen is a menu showing
and X working without problems.

I suspect Compiz is causing the freezing to occur, since I tried
Metacity, and X works without problems under Metacity.

I will attach pictures of the monitor display showing what happened,
strace outputs of Xorg and Compiz, the GDB output of Compiz, and other
pertinent information.  Just in case, I will also attach the Xorg log.
