Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libpam-mount

When I updated from 8.04 to 9.10 earlier this week, I was shocked to see
that 9.10's mount.crypt could not mount my encrypted partition that
worked flawlessly on 8.04. Both after an adept on-the-fly upgrade and a
fresh regular 9.10 installation (with added 'libpam-mount'), mount.crypt
would report that my partition was not an encrypted partition. I did not
touch the partition table nor did I format (or even touch/mount) my home
partition in the installation process.

After quite some back and forth, I made a fresh 8.04 install on my
unencrypted root partition. Then, again with libpam-mount added, I was
able to mount my home partition and save all its data, before I took the
chance and repartition/reformatted the entire disk for a fresh 9.10
installation.

I would like to make you aware of this flaw on karmic. And I wish I
could provide you with details on what encryption was used for the home
partition, but there is barely more to say that it obviously was not a
modern-type LUKS partition (see 512 first bytes of the partition
attached) and that it was created on kubuntu pretty much three years
ago. I believe I can remember that back then, I used LUKS to create the
partition, but then there is no "LUKS" on the first four bytes of the
partition, only a "CS".

** Affects: libpam-mount (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
