OK, your modem is being detected by the Karmic kernel. No need to
install the driver anymore. These lines show it being detected:

[   19.606165] cdc_acm 5-1:2.0: ttyACM0: USB ACM device
[   19.607937] usbcore: registered new interface driver cdc_acm
[   19.607941] cdc_acm: v0.26:USB Abstract Control Model driver for USB
modems and ISDN adapters

Open GnomePPP, click the setup button, and under "device", manually
enter "/dev/ttyACM0" (that's a zero, not the letter O)

Click on close and see if that works for you.
