Public bug reported:
There is a problem in ARPACK such that it does not properly bound the
number of eigenvalues/eigenvectors requested from the xTRSEN function.
This leads to a segmentation fault if more than the expected number of
eigenvalues have converged, as not enough memory has been allocated to
store all the returned values. David Bateman, who found this bug,
explains it much better than I in two posts on the Octave mailing list:
http://www-old.cae.wisc.edu/pipermail/octave-maintainers/2006-September/000631.html
http://www-old.cae.wisc.edu/pipermail/octave-maintainers/2006-November/001230.html
He posts a patch (attached) here:
https://www.cae.wisc.edu/pipermail/octave-
maintainers/attachments/20061104/d7d2f5a1/attachment-0001.ksh
Two chunks fail to apply cleanly, to the Karmic source for ARAPCK, but
they are easy to fix by hand.
** Affects: arpack (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
