Got the problem on 9.10 with emesene 1.5.
A few days ago i stopped showing my "Alias" and insted showed my email.
Yesterday i couldn't add a contact in emesene, but it worked in empathy. When I logged back into emesene, it didn't find the new contact. I renamed the ~/.config/emesene1.0/my_email_com to .bak, logged back in (setting my settings again), and the new contact was there.

I can't remember an emesene update in the last couple of weeks (but I'm
not 100% sure), so maybe it's a change in the msn protocol?

I can do testing if you need it :)
