By "trying to reproduce it there" I mean testing the kernels in
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and see if you can
reproduce the tearing with any of them (since it didn't reproduce with
rc8 and rc9). Since v2.6.31-rc9 does not have the problem, maybe it is
in v2.6.31, v2.6.31.1 etc (if v2.6.31.3 and v2.6.32-rc4 does not have
the problem it is likely that none of them have it). These kernels are
standard/vanilla kernels as released by Linus and built in the ubuntu
environment. If these all work, the problem is triggered by some ubuntu
customization, and we can start looking there. If the problem starts
occurring in one of the mainline kernels (e.g. 2.6.31.2) we know where
in the evolution of the mainline kernel the problem first occurred (e.g.
between 2.6.31.1 and 2.6.31.2).
