I only use a lot of external scripts for the advanced script Conky_Mira,
however I decided to use the less advanced script to test Conky as it
could be one of the many scripts in Conky_Mira causing the issue.  The
second less advanced script I attached does not work either though, or
the standard conkyrc which will be used if none is provided.  So I
suspect is a problem with Conky and not the scripts I run.

My second script is far from fine on my machine, nvclock and sensors are
installed and the weather scripts you mention are infact external simple
bash files to monitor CPU temps, I just never got round to renaming the
folder heh.

I am using GNOME and Emerald, I have tried with the most basic file -
the one that is included with Conky by default.
