This bug was fixed in the package nagios-nrpe - 2.12-3ubuntu1

nagios-nrpe (2.12-3ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Resolve bashism in init script thanks to Andrew Glen-Young
    (LP: #447456).  Fixed in Debian version 2.12-3.1.
