Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vpnc

The VPN at work is an IPSec Cisco VPN (don't have more details at the moment, but I can ask IT if needed), and works with the Cisco Client on Mac OS 10.5 and Windows XP/Vista 32bit (but I can't get the Linux proprietary one to build) as well as the ones built in to Mac OS 10.6 and the iPhone OS 3.
When using any client, after negotiating a connection, the client prompts the user to click continue (to start the session) or disconnect.
Using VPNC 0.5.3-1 on my 9.10 Netbook Remix and 9.10 Desktop either with network-manager-vpnc or the command line interface, this prompt is displayed as a notification (in the fading black boxes when using manager, in the terminal when using the CLI). At this point the network-manager applet shows a lock over the connection, and a plug (as if connected to a wall outlet) next to the VPN name. Also: the network interface tun0 shows up when running ifconfig while the VPN is in this state, the IP routing tables are modified, and I am able to make DNS queries but not ping successfully (clearing DNS cache and pinging a domain name will show the IP address for the destination, but no packets will be returned).
