The sound issue seems to be the same as bug 442388 opened on 2009-10-04.
You may want to try the workaround suggested there.

Regarding whether you should close this bug and add a comment to bug
442388 (with the output of lspci -nn), and open a new one for the crash
on exit (with the Dependencies.txt and XsessionErrors.txt files) - I'll
leave that up to others, as I am still new to Launchpad and the Ubuntu
bug-tracking process.
