I can confirm that without usplash, it is possible to enter passphrase correctly sometime, but not always. I still get Recovery prompt after entering passphrase, but after couple of retries, it is accepted and boot continues.
Without usplash, Recovery prompt does not reappear each second, but once after each entry of passphrase.
