I think we need to get it clear what you (and I) mean by the aspect
ratio of the movie. I will explain below how I THINK that ffmpeg works
(no guarantees that it is correct). As far as I can tell from you
output, you had a 1280x720 movie which means an aspect ratio of 16:9.
You try to get that movie into 720x480 with the same (so called by
ffmpeg) display aspect ratio or DAR, and to do that ffmpeg squeezes the
pixels of the original movie a little bit, with the (so called by
ffmpeg) pixel aspect ratio or PAR of 32:27. This means that the whole
original movie should fill the whole 720x480 pixels of your output movie
which will be somewhat "distorted" because the original has a different
height/width ratio (16:9) than the final movie (3:2). I just found out
that different movie players display the result slightly different. Just
to be clear, what do you want and what do you expect from the
winff/ffmpeg?
Two questions to help troubleshoot in case there is a real problem (with
winff or ffmpeg):
Could you display the command created by winff? It is available when you
press convert AFTER you set the following in the menu Options -> Display
CMD Line. (Unset it again afterwards, or winff will not start any real
conversion)
Could you attach a short piece of movie (couple of seconds) before and
after conversion? I think that if there is a real problem, the problem
is with ffmpeg, not with winff (but let's first see the command and
movie snapshots).
