I have the same issue with Jaunty *and* Karmic.

Here is the packages list for my Karmic install :

audacious                            2.1-1ubuntu1
audacious-plugins               2.1-1ubuntu1
audacious-plugins-extra     2.1-1ubuntu1
pulseaudio                           1:0.9.16~test6-3-g57e1-0ubuntu2

The ALSA Output Plugin (-ng) goes just fine.

The same problem occurs with my both of my sound cards :
- E-MU 0404 USB 2.0
- Intel 82801I (ICH9 family) HD Audio Controller
