Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: transcriber

Hi,

I'm using Transcriber in Intrepid and it runs extremely slowly and takes
up more than half of my CPU cycles constantly, even when idling (that
is, the process "wish"--so I wonder if this could be a wish or a
libsnack2 bug). When I try to pause audio, it takes several seconds
before the pause key registers. (This makes the program very frustrating
to use, since its whole attraction is that you can stop on a dime to
catch the little subtleties while writing.)

The other strange thing that happens (because of the same slowness) is
that if I enter an accented character while the sound is running, the
accented character takes several seconds to appear, materializing after
whatever letters I've typed in the mean time. So I always have to stop
the sound in order to type.

I've been using transcriber for years, and in previous versions I always
found it to be lightning fast and lightweight. I'd be happy to provide
more information but I'm not sure how to diagnose the problem.

Thanks,

Joe
