[Bug 214736] Re: screen dims on boot

similar problem on an ASUS PRO75
though i'm using kdm, the screen brightness slider hs to be "touched" to restore full brightness
the screen dims to minimum when I
-boot
-close the lid
-start anysoftware using a graphic surface (mplayer , SDL)

its a brand newlaptop, first install  : 2.6.28-17-generic , ubuntu
jaunty

also get this in log :

pretty sure it's related

the xorg.conf is virtually empty
havent got a clue where to start... any idea of a quick fix?
any idea where it comes from ? (kernel? intel driver? Acpi?)
this bug makes the laptop near unusable
