same problem here:

+ Desktop settings (default), GTK+
- no playlist files shown in dialog when you save the list, no list saved, no error

+ CDE
- no playlist files shown in dialog when you save the list, but playlist will be saved
- playlist entry vlc:node title =    is not set to playlist file name, just default entry

+ motif 
- no playlist files shown in dialog when you save the list, but playlist will be saved
- however playlist is added on first entry within the playlist itself!

+plastique, windows and cleanlooks
- no playlist files shown in dialog when you save the list, but playlist will be save
