Confirmed on 9.10 release with my hardware,
2.6.31-17-generic
Inspiron 1520 (Intel PM965, nvidia, iw3945)

Looks like it doesn't even attempt resume -- anything need to be in
grub?

dmesg says [    0.787404] PM: Resume from disk failed.
pm-suspend.log shows no resume attempted
